GEM DRILL cc drilling contractors opened their doors to the business world in November 2005. Yes, it’s still young and will grow from strength to strength with the POWER and MERCY of our CREATOR. After working several years in the drilling industry and gathering much experience in the field as a drilling contractor I have decided to start a drilling company of my own. The doors are opening up in South Africa and Africa and the demand for good quality drilling and service is there. For the past three years my crew and I have been operating in Angola and Botswana and are familiar with the conditions in those countries. Gem Drill’s aim is to service the drilling industry locally and abroad. With more than fifteen years of drilling experience in South Africa and across boarders Gem Drill will always be on the lookout for new ventures in order to broaden its horizons. No matter how small or big the job, we are sitting with the necessary expertise to service the drilling industry, from Geotechnical to Exploration drilling.
To date Gem Drill has had no incident on its sites and will strive in order to
maintain a good safety record. Safety comes first and we are committed in all areas
of safety and to ensure the health and safe working environment for our staff.
Recently Gem Drill has been awarded a small geotechnical drilling contract at the port of Lome Togo West Africa.
Working with PMI international on this project we had to do a serious amount of drilling and testing in very difficult sandy conditions. Beach drilling is not always a smooth operation. Once we had our mud mixture to stabilize the hole we could do the necessary drilling and testing through out the project area. Conditions weren’t always favorable and the team faced various challenges drilling the sandy formations to a depth of 50 meters per hole. The work was completed in an 8 week period and the client could get the testing results done with the onsite supervision and lab testing by PMI International.
Gem Drill has been invited by a consortium formed in Afghanistan in order to conduct exploration drilling on a gold deposit in the mountains not far from a little town called Douche. The site visit was successful and we are looking at mobilizing by mid May 20011. Afghanistan has not been drilled for decades and exploring the new grounds will be a total new experience for us. We will be facing extreme weather conditions from very hot weather to snow in winter.
As a Drilling entity we have always been challenged through out Africa and the results have always been satisfying to our clients. So taking up the challenge in Afghanistan will open up a whole new dimension for this small South African based company.
